Is God Insensitive?
1 Kings 17:10-13
10 So he went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the gates of the village, he saw a widow gathering sticks, and he asked her, “Would you please bring me a little water in a cup?”
11 As she was going to get it, he called to her, “Bring me a bite of bread, too.”
12 But she said, “I swear by the Lord your God that I don’t have a single piece of bread in the house. And I have only a handful of flour left in the jar and a little cooking oil in the bottom of the jug. I was just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal, and then my son and I will die.”
13 But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son.
How many times have you found yourself in a situation where all you are left with is not even enough to solve your problem, the time you have is not enough for you to do all that you have planned for the day. And yet in the midst of all these, God comes in and wants some of ur time (there are even times when He wants the whole of it.). "Insensitive", you may say and I won't say you are wrong. It is very INSENSITIVE and I dare to say God is INSENSITIVE. He doesn't always care how you feel about it, just as long as you obey. You can cry if you want to, that necessarily won't change His mind. Just do what I say you should do
SENS-itivity all about the senses, how you feel with respect to how they feel.
Here's the twist; God does not react to senses, He reacts to faith that is exactly what He was saying when He said, "...my ways are not your ways..." God reacts to faith (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is simply just doing what God says to do. Nike would say Just do it! Yeah, just do it! You don't have to rationalise it as long as you are sure it is God, Just do it.
Let us read further into the passage:
14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again!”
15 So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her son continued to eat for many days. 16 There was always enough flour and olive oil left in the containers, just as the Lord had promised through Elijah.
That very well sums up the matter, when you act in faith, God reacts. His thoughts are those of peace and not of evil to give you an expected end. There are many requests that God has made of you this week, month or year. How many of these requests have you honoured. God might have been asking for your life, it might seem so difficult to give at first but what I have experienced is that when you give your life to Him, He gives His life to you (ZoƩ). He came that you may have life nd have it more abundantly. Honour Him with you time and He will honour you with His time. Give him your attention and I can guarantee you (as sure as I am that you are reading this) that He will give you His attention. Love Him and He will shower you with His love (He has always loved you)
(' ',) Just obey!
